Zwen

The people of Zwen gained the power to turn into stone as a way of hibernation on a planet whose night is six months long.

Zwen is an inhabited planet. There are no other known inhabited planets in Zwen's star system.

Description

Zwen has a very slow rotation rate (day) compared to its rate of revolution around its sun (year): one full day/night cycle on Zwen takes one full year. Its inhabitants either evolved or were given the ability to turn to a very strong stone-like substance, immobile and unconscious, for the duration of the night. It is unknown how they are responsive to outside stimuli such that they know when to return to normal form.
