History with the Legion

I've been a Legion fan since the mid 70s. The first Legion book I can remember having was one where the fought Pulsar Stargrave. I have no idea what issue that was. I was pretty young back then and didn't quit get the point of the story. All I can remember now is that the splash page had the Legion (Superboy, Chameleon Boy, Brainiac 5, Saturn Girl, and a few others) imbeded in the ground. A couple of the members started smashing their way out, but Chameleon Boy turned himself into a snake and slithered out...I thought his only power was to turn into a snake for years after that.

The first book I remember buying at the super market was the one in which Chemical King was killed. There was no such thing as a comic book shop around my area in those days, and if the Super Market didn't get the next issue that was just tough luck. They didn't get the next issue. To this day I have never seen the issues directly after his death.

I started collecting the Legion around 1980, and was lucky enough to go through the entire Levitz era. But the five year gap really didn't do it for me, and rather than see my all time favorites written by a writer that I didn't think should write fortune cookies I stopped collecting them.
