Doomsday: The Death of Superman was the name of a series of trading cards produced in 1992 by Skybox. There were 100 cards, 6 chase cards, and 4 promo cards in the set.

Description

The Doomsday: The Death of Superman set was produced to commemorate the extended storyline of the battle between Doomsday and Superman, which led to the latter's "death". The set included 90 regular cards, 1 checklist card, and a 9-card puzzle subset called "Funeral for a Friend".

The set contains original art with the exception of the puzzle subset, which is a reproduction of the "Funeral for a Friend" retail poster by Dan Jurgens and Brett Breeding of characters carrying Superman's casket. However, due to restrictions caused because other companies held some rights at the time, certain characters in the poster had to be redrawn for this card set (for example, Batman and Robin were not allowed to appear).

  • Only the three cards listed above show Legionnaires (cards C1 through C6 do not, though all are included in the gallery picture for completeness). Oddly, the Legion team should not be on this poster or the puzzle pieces at all, since they were not in the 20th century during the events leading to Superman's death and his funeral. The L.E.G.I.O.N. also appears, but they were not on Earth during this time.
