Non-uniform format for disambiguation pages

  1. Some of these pages are referenced by the real name (Tinya Wazzo) and some by the code name (Cosmic Boy). I personally lean toward the real name, because it is the one thing that does not change from era to era.
  2. The various links are not uniform in the way they are presented. Some of the disambiguation pages use links in the [[/Pre-Crisis]] format and others use the [[Cosmic Boy/Pre-Crisis|Pre-Crisis]] format. Maybe I'm being nit-picky, but if uniformity is desired, better to adjust it now rathe rthan after a few dozen more have been created. In my opinion, the longer format is more presentable and easier to understand for someone looking at it for the first time. From what I can tell the [[/Pre-Crisis]] format would require more work if we use if we use the real name option from #1 above</nowiki>

I'd be happy to go through and update the pages so that they are all uniform, just let me know which direction to go on #1 and #2 above and I'll start editing away. -- Gopher 09:07, 14 July 2006 (PDT)

I like the new format on Garth Ranzz even better than the ones listed in #2 above. Any opinions on #1? Gopher 09:36, 14 July 2006 (PDT)

No single solution works, so I'm going by order of "what will people look for":
  1. If they've kept the same primary codename right through (e.g. Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl), best to put it at the codename.
  2. If all versions HAVE USED a codename, even if one changed (e.g. Shrinking Violet, where post-ZH Vi flicked between LeViathan and simply "Violet" post-Eye), still best to put it at the root codename, since people will look for Shrinking Violet before Salu Digby. And, after all, redirects are cheap.
  3. If there is no codename which all versions have in common, then and only then use the real name (e.g., Garth Ranzz, Tinya Wazzo, Luornu Durgo)
  4. And with some (Projectra/Sensor), you're £$€¥ed whatever you do, since there's no name, real or codename, which all versions have in common, so spin a bottle7.
And, on top of that, we've got the multiple-characters-same-codename crowd. There (e.g. Invisible Kid, Kid Quantum), I'm just putting the disambig for all the characters on the codename and damn it all.
Now, the [[/Pre-Crisis]]/etc thing is a derivation of the same problem. Basically, I asked for subpages to be enabled because it gives you a nice trail back to the root link under the title. If you don't nest it under a common codename where possible - e.g. Cosmic Boy - you lose that, so then you have to point to the "- see" . But that looks messy unless you actually need it. - Reboot (SoM) talk page 09:49, 14 July 2006 (PDT)
Hmmm. When I've been doing the Glorithverse pages, I've kept with the codenames every time, unless one doesn't exist. Garth Ranzz is either [[Lightning Lad/Glorithverse|Lightning Lad]], [[Lightning Lad/Glorithverse|Garth Ranzz]], or [[Lightning Lad/Glorithverse#SW6|Live Wire]], depending on the context. Even Garridan Ranzz is [[Validus|Garridan Ranzz]], because he was Validus at one point. I've also tried to follow your rule for multiple-characters-same-codename with the [[Invisible Kid/Lyle Norg/Glorithverse|Invisible Kid (Lyle Norg)]] format. But it isn't too much trouble to change things, I guess. The era's pages are pretty low in number. - Autochef 10:17, 14 July 2006 (PDT)
