Cover Contest

This issue's cover was created by a collaborative effort of 34 different artists, each artist or penciller/inker team handling a different character in the group portrait. To make things more interesting and fun, DC challenged the readers to identify which artists had handled each character, with a prize for the most accurate answer list. If you would like to try your own hand at matching artists with their work, the details of the contest rules are provided below, exactly as they appeared at the end of the Legion Outpost letter column in that issue. For a list of the contest answers, see the answer page.

ANNOUNCING—ta-dah—A CONTEST!!!

Be the first and only one in your (or any other) neighborhood to win a page of original Keith Giffen/Larry Mahlstedt art from this very issue!

As you no doubt noticed, this special anniversary issue's most singular cover required the talents of 34 (count 'em, 34) various artists. To the first eagle-eyed reader who correctly identifies who did what to whom, and how (and who qualifies under the rules below)—we will be awarding the above-mentioned piece of art—autographed by the entire regualr creative team of the Legion, suitable for framing, bartering, or enclosure in the time capsule of your choice!

RULES:

1) Every character must be listed in the same order as below, followed by the name of the pencil/ink artist or penciller/inker team, who illustrated that particular character.

2) To qualify, your answer must be postmarked no later than April 15th, 1983 and should be addressed to Legion #300 Contest, 666 Fifth Ave., N.Y., N.Y. 10103.

3) In the event there is more than one totally correct entry, the following method will be used to determine the winner:

First: the earliest postmark on a totally correct entry; if still tied, then
Second: a random drawing from all totally correct entries bearing the earliest postmark

4) If there is no totally correct entry, then the above rules will be applied to all entries with the highest total of correct artist identifications.

That's it! Pretty easy, right? REMEMBER: Every figure was handled by a DIFFERENT artist or penciller/inker team. CLUE: Keith Giffen pencilled two figures.

Those who only pencilled a figure: Ross Andru, Howard Bender, Gene Colan, Keith Giffen (2), Ed Hannigan, Carmine Infantino, Larry Mahlstedt, George Tuska.
