+ | |||
+ | I just picked up the S:TAS Season Three DVD and will be uploading screen captures from New Kids in Town. Is there a convention for naming those images? Do we want to include the series name, episode name and image description in every name? Something like STAS-NewKidsInTown-30thCenturyEarth.jpg gets a bit cumbersome. If we establish subcategories for each series, we could perhaps omit the series name. If we were going to have nothing more than the two existing episodes to work with, we could easily abbreviate the episode names, but with the new series coming up, this wont work.
+ | |||
+ | Also, I was envisioning capturing 20 or 30 shots (or more) from this episode. Am I going overboard? Should I stick with a few shots for use in the episode text description, or do we want to go the comprehensive route? If storage capacity is an issue, I'd be happy to upload smaller images and link to larger shots on my own legionoutpost.com or LegionPics if Lightning Lad wants to host them.
+ | |||
+ | If we do build a large collection of images from each episode, we should establish uniform dimensions as well. 720x540 seems to work well for larger images. 360x270, 240x180 or 200x150 all work fairly well for the smaller images.

+ | == Transition between Superboy v1 and Superboy & the LSH ==
+ | |||
+ | The "Superboy and the Legion" period is generally considered to start with Superboy #197 in September, 1973. This is the way that Overstreet lists it, and there is a coherency/continuity of story from that point onward that supports this. From that point on, the Legion were featured in every issue and no non-Legion stories were included. Technically, the name of the magazine was still simply Superboy at this point, although on the cover it prominently said Superboy starring the Legion of Super-Heroes.
+ | |||
+ | With Superboy #222, the "starring" designation on the cover changed to "and", implying a little more strongly that the Legion were not just guests, but that it was their magazine too. But not until issue #231 did the formal name of the comic change to Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes.
+ | |||
+ | As a point of clarification, should cover images switch between the Superboy086.jpg format to the SuperboyLSH001.jpg format with 197 or 231? Arguements could be made for either. My own feeling is that both the images and the comic pages should reflect Superboy only up until #230, although we may have some confusion with people uploading images with the SuperboyLSH designation between 197 and 230. I could pre-empt this a bit by focusing on those images now, although I had intended to upload chronologically from Adventure 247 up.

+ | |||
+ | :::On a very minor related note, Mike, I'm interested in your opionion on the following. Superboy v1 has its share of Legion issues, and Superboy v3 has a smattering. I've noticed in your own listings, you do not refer to The New Adventures of Superboy #50 as Superboy v2, even parenthetically. I am correct in equating these two, no? While it will only apply to one image, I would anticipate naming that image Superboy-v2-50.jpg for the sake of simplicity, rather than refer to it as NewAdventuresOfSuperboy50.jpg. I suppose with only one image, it really doesn't matter, but I prefer working with a consistent pattern across series if possible. Its hardly even worth the time to type it out, but my anal retentiveness forces me to bring it up. (I think there is something inherent in the series, particularly the early years of scattered publication, that attracts that anal personality type).
+ | |||
+ | ::::The reason I don't list "New Adventures of Superboy" as "Superboy v2" is because the title in the indicia is "New Adventures of Superboy" (as seen here). Furthermore, just to be a little more anal retentive, the second series to have the title "Superboy" (thus, v2) was the 1990 series that spun off from the Superboy TV show continuity, as seen here. The third series to have the title "Superboy" (thus, v3) was the 1994 series starring clone/Kon-el, as seen here. (And did you know that in Superboy v2 #5, he met an alternate version of the Legion? See here.)
+ | |||
+ | :::::Ok, so NewAdventuresOfSuperboy50.jpg would be an accurate name for the image and Superboy-v2-50.jpg would either not exist or be completely irrelevant. Better to contribute to LegionPics?
Rather than uploading new full sized images to the Wiki, would it be more useful to contribute them to LegionPics? Also, is there a way to create thumbnails of images without uploading a new smaller image? Gopher 12:17, 7 July 2006 (PDT)
- You can't contribute directly to LegionPics, and Lightning Lad is away just now. If in doubt, upload the image here as-is, since there should be a page written for the issue (eventually), and if it's really too big or anything of the sort, I can resize it. :)
- Type for a small, free-floating right-aligned image, and for the same, only left-aligned (replacing the bolded bits as needed, obviously). If you're putting an image in an Infobox, put on the image= line of the code. (see Kinetix for examples of both).
- Oh, and please sign comments on talk pages with - ~~~~, which turns out like this (only with your username, obviously :)): - Reboot 09:44, 7 July 2006 (PDT).

Reposting from Category talk:Glorithverse images, since I expounded a bit more there about the "why"s:
- The no-scans-from-other-sites rule is mostly to head off complaints from the owners of those sites (which is why I excluded LegionPics since, y'know, Lightning Lad, the guy who runs that site also runs this one - they're both even under the same URL!). It'd be nice if you could reupload with better scans, but it doesn't need to be done right this very second.
- And the resolution thing when they're already @ LegionPics is mostly because double-uploading when it's not needed drains the site's space - you can't really include an image not in the LegionWiki filing system in a page since you can't resize it/thumbnail it, so uploading stuff again is needed to an extent, but there's no point in going too far. - Reboot (SoM) talk page 10:47, 7 July 2006 (PDT)
Thanks for the info. I have to get my older issues out of storage tonight, but I should be able to start adding scans over the next few days. When Lightning Lad gets back, I'll discuss providing images for LegionPics. Over time, I should be able to fill pretty much any gap he has in that respect. Gopher 12:17, 7 July 2006 (PDT)
Episode screen captures names? Number of captures per episode? Standard screen capture size?
I just picked up the S:TAS Season Three DVD and will be uploading screen captures from New Kids in Town.
Also, I was envisioning capturing 20 or 30 shots (or more) from this episode.
If we do build a large collection of images from each episode, we should establish uniform dimensions as well. 720x540 seems to work well for larger images. 360x270, 240x180 or 200x150 all work fairly well for the smaller images. - Gopher 12:22, 9 July 2006 (PDT)
- For New Kids in Town, you'll need three or four pictures (which will take about six or seven screencaps) - just upload full-size:
